Luzerne Optical’s support for the industry
, vision and optimism has earned it honors and recognition from the American Optometric Association, the Opticians Association of America, and their state and local societies.  The Northeastern Pennsylvania Optometric Society honored Luzerne Optical for participation in the VISION USA project, a program supported on the national as well as local level.  The project provides basic eye health and vision care services without charge to less fortunate individuals throughout the United States and around the world.

•   1992 - Named Varilux “Lab of the Year” for the United States, based on sales, service and marketing.  Varilux produces the most widely used, no-line bifocal in the country.
•   1993 to 2009 – Annually named one of the Top 25 Labs in the country by industry trade publications.
•   1995-1996 - OLA honors John (Jack) P. Dougherty for his long service. He had worked as chairman of the executive committee, vice-president, treasurer and director and held a number of committee chairs.
•   1995- Wilkes-Barre Mayor Lee A. Namey proclaimed March 2nd as John P. Dougherty Day, presenting him with a commendation.  The proclamation cited his “record of remarkable progress and growth” and his company’s “positive effect on the local economy.”
•   1997-2009 – Achieved the Contact Lens Manufacturers Association manufacturing “Seal of Excellence” for displaying the highest manufacturing standards.
•   1999 – Awarded “Outstanding Performance in Varilux Sales” by Essilor International
•   2000 – Awarded “Outstanding Performance in Varilux Sales” by Essilor International
•   2000 – Named a “Crizal Champions” lab for outstanding sales and marketing of anti-reflective lenses, by Essilor International.
•   2001 – Named a “Crizal Champions” lab for outstanding sales and marketing of anti-reflective lenses, by Essilor International.
•   2001 – Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Business & Industry selected Luzerne Optical as “Small Business of the Year”.  Chamber President Stephen Barrouk noted, “Business success like that of Luzerne Optical is vital to the continued growth of our region.  This is an international firm that started here, and we are proud to honor them and to celebrate the contribution they have made to our region.”
 •   2001 – John (Jack) P. Dougherty was honored as an Optical Pioneer Visionary at the OLA’s Optical Pioneers Banquet.  He joined a select group of industry veterans, both active and posthumously, who were cited for their contributions to the success of their industry.
•   2001 – Honored as the 2000 Corning Laboratory of the Year at Corning’s key distributors meeting in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, for providing the best sales and marketing support.
•   2002 – Presented the first ever “Essilor Lenses Lab of the Year” award at Essilor’s national sales meeting, for outstanding sales, marketing, service and support of Essilor products.
•   2003 – Awarded “Outstanding Performance in Crizal Sales” by Essilor International
•   2004 – Awarded “Outstanding Performance in Varilux Sales” by Essilor International
•   2005 - Awarded “Outstanding Performance in Crizal Sales” by Essilor International
•   2006 - Awarded “Crizal Lab of the Year” by Essilor International
•  Luzerne has also earned numerous other awards from Essilor, Corning and other industry leaders, such as Transitions/PPG Industries, Polymer Technology/Bausch & Lomb, Carl Zeiss Optical and Signet Arnorlite.
