Transitions Vantage lenses are the newest addition to the Transitions line of adaptive lenses. These everyday lenses are for anyone who wants to get more from their eyewear.

Everyday Transitions lenses are designed to replace clear lenses and to be worn both indoors and outdoors. Many of your patients will still benefit from a pair of sunglasses. The Transitions line of adaptive performance sunwear is designed to adapt by darkening and changing color to enhance performance during specific outdoor activities

Indoors: Virtually Clear and Not Polarized Outdoors: Darkens and Polarizes

Breakthrough variable polarization technology.

Until now, polarization only existed as static film embedded in a lens. It was tinted and fixed, and thus unable to adapt to changing light and become clear. Transitions Optical has shattered conventional film technology by creating lenses that simultaneously activate and orient to the angle at which light reaches the eyes. In other words, New Transitions Vantage lenses help control glare and light scatter by both darkening and increasing their polarization in UV light.

With New Transitions Vantage lenses, your patients will continue to experience the comfort and clarity they’ve enjoyed with their everyday Transitions photochromic lenses, but they’ll also have the additional benefit of crisper, sharper, more vivid vision throughout the day, in varying outdoor light situations.

Because Transitions Vantage lenses adapt to changing outdoor light by both darkening and polarizing, patients can now enjoy the benefits of polarization during more hours of the day.

Transitions Vantage Variable Polarization:

Why is it that when an activated Transitions® Vantage™ lens is cross-polarized with a polarized film or polarized sunlens do l not see complete "blackout?”

Transitions Vantage lenses feature variable polarization, meaning there is no polarization in the indoor, virtually clear, state and the level of polarization increases as the lens begins to darken when exposed to UV rays.

When you cross-polarize a Transitions Vantage lens with a piece of polarized film or polarized sunlens, you will NOT see complete blackout as you would when cross-polarizing two polarized sunlenses. The reason behind this is that since Transitions Vantage lenses have a variable level of polarization dependent upon UV exposure and temperature, the amount of polarization is different than the polarized sunlens or polarized film, therefore allowing a little more light through. Regardless, you should still a noticeable difference when cross-polarizing an activated Transitions Vantage lens with a polarized sunlens or polarized film.

Transitions Vantage Breakthrough and Adaptive Lens Technology

ORLANDO, Jan. 30, 2012 –Transitions Optical launched the latest breakthrough in adaptive lens technology – variable polarization – today at Transitions Academy, its annual education event for industry professionals. Transitions® Vantage™ lenses are the first and only lenses designed to both darken and polarize upon UV exposure to deliver noticeably crisper, sharper vision, even in the brightest outdoor glare.
Transitions Vantage lenses are everyday photochromic lenses that start out virtually clear and non-polarized indoors; outdoors they not only adapt to changing light but also increase polarization as they darken, optimizing the angle at which light reaches the eyes to help control glare and light scatter.

Until now, polarization only existed primarily as a fixed film in sun lenses. Transitions Vantage lenses employ a new technology different than current photochromics and polarization. While current photochromic molecules darken in random patterns, creating an even tint, the photochromic dyes in Transitions Vantage lenses not only darken, but also align to create polarization. This means that Transitions Vantage lenses will have a variable level of polarization efficiency depending on the amount of UV exposure – the darker the lens, the more polarization efficiency there is. The lighter the lens, the less polarization there will be.

Transitions Vantage lenses are a part of an everyday product offering – meant to be worn indoors and outdoors – which is complemented by a full line of performance sunwear products. With added anti-reflective (AR) coating, Transitions Vantage lenses become the only everyday lenses available that help to manage all four types of glare.
In a wearers test, comparing Transitions Vantage lenses to Transitions® VI lenses, Transitions Vantage lenses rated high in satisfaction for indoor and outdoor use and were preferred on all key polarization benefits.
